Day 25 – Driving to Anchorage

Displaying her passion

We set off in light rain for Anchorage about 9 am. Some diligent research has found 16 quilt shops in the Anchorage area so decisions had to be made.

On the way we made a small detour to the town of Talkeetna. This town is the staging post for climbers attempting Denali and the base for most of the scenic flights of the mountain.

It is also the town who has had a cat as elected mayor for the past 17 years.

The rain continued to pour, getting stronger the further south we got. Peter and I agreed that today was ideal to get as many of the quilt shops out of the way because tomorrow was looking good.

The first shop was in Wasilla, made famous recently as the home of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

It really was a miserable day.

The girls made the most of the day but we still ended up at our favourite grocery store, Fred Myer, to buy the makings for dinner. Nicky put together an excellent chicken and asparagus soup.

Tomorrow we have been promised fine weather to explore Anchorage.
