Spain & Portugal – Portugal at Last

Oyster farms in Vigo, Spain. Vigo is famous for Rua Pescaderia, also known as Oyster Street in Vigo’s old town.

Time to head into Portugal for a change of culture. Our aversion to freeways and toll roads has lead to some interesting drives through the countryside and so again today. Interesting, pretty, but not photogenic. We are heading for the town of Viana do Castelo because it is reported as a beautiful town with some great sights, and its on the coast and cooler than inland.

We have no idea why flowers are placed like this on the bridge but it seemed rather poignant.

Every town has its own ancient church with its own story,

American Pokeweed, pretty, plentiful along the roadside, and highly toxic.

Another Spanish architectural creation.

Some classy beach loo’s.

Our camp site is about 6 km south of Viana do Castelo for a free stay at a beachside bar and restaurant. Its very basic but the food was great and the price is right,

The Sanctuary of Santa Luzia, our big ticket item for tomorrow.

A nice beach with very cold Atlantic Ocean water. Hundreds of kite surfers out making a great spectacle along the beach.

Getting plenty of air.

Tomorrow we explore Viana do Castelo before heading to Braga for a few days.
