Finally got to see some flamingos.

Before hitting the road for Cartagena we wanted to have a look at Cabo de Gata where we had stayed. It was a fishing village, now grown some, on the edge of the Spanish desert.

The road let us up the side of a cliff and around to the Cago de Gata and lighthouse. This was stunning.

Coming back down the cliff gave great views of the town, beach and salt pans.

The poly tunnels left on going for another 100 km and there was significant development happening for the building of 1000’s more.

Finally to Cartagena where we left the van at the camp site and took the bus to town for a look around. It was a great bus service, every 10 minutes and .40 E.

Cartagena has a huge harbour with an extensive maritime history. It is a major naval base for Spain.

Cartagena is famous for a recent discovery. In 1990 it was discovered that a Roman Theatre was buried under part of the city. The excavation was privately funded and a museum built. This is an amazing story of a recovery from the 1st C.

Next was a look at city hall that has stood since 1917. The architecture and decorating inside is awesome.

The outside looks all right as well.

Then a wander through evening streets with most things closed at 6 pm. All seems to siesta until about 8.

Cartagena is another beautiful town.

As we walked past a very ordinary building with an open door we glanced inside to find yet another beautiful church.
