Lake Geneva, just past Lausanne.

Just about any way we planned it, the trip into Italy from northern France involved expensive toll roads, particularly the Mont Blanc tunnel that costs 75 E alone. However we did find a route with minimum tolls that drove through Lausanne in Switzerland, along Lake Geneva. This is a drive I have wanted to do for a long time so this was my chance. Just as well it was a lousy day for photos as the stopping opportunities were rare.

One reaching Lausanne the road runs along the lake through what seems to be a long continuous town but in reality is many different ones.

The terracing for grapes and other fruit was amazing. The Swiss use every available piece of land.

To avoid the Mont Blanc tunnel means going over the Swiss Alps, 2600 m up, with a lot more butt clenching driving. But it was incredibly spectacular.

There were several of these up the mountain. They are ventilation shafts for the tunnels below.

Not sure if going down is any better than going up. It’s all hair raising in a motorhome.

We finally made it down to Aosta, still nestled in the mountains, and half way to Lake Como, our destination tomorrow.
