A patchwork of vines
Another glorious day in France. Linda and Nicky off to the quilt show, Collette exploring the wonders of Kayserberg, and the boys go for a wander though Alsace.
This region is heavily covered with grapes with villages dotted among them at regular intervals. You can take a long time not going very far. We spent about an hour on some very dodgy back roads, wandering among the vines and tasting the grapes still hanging.

While I often stopped for photos and grape tasting Peter and Alan considered if I was going to get shot in the process.

A school crossing

This is such a beautiful countryside with photos at every corner I could do this all day.
Came across a sign for a chateau up the road so we went for a look and stumbled upon the Chateau De Hohlandsbourg. Perched high on a hill this castle was started initially in 1279. It has had a long and chequered history and has been significantly rebuilt to become the attraction it is today.

The view from the top of the chateau. Towns in a sea of grapes.
We then returned to Kayserberg for lunch and to collect Collette. The village where the quilting show is held also has a mining museum which we wanted to visit. The main attraction is a mine tour.

Peter and Alan suiting up for the mine tour. It was mostly by head light with some quite tight areas to squeeze through.

It was a good tour, specially as it was a discount day. Only 8€ instead of 20€.
Finally met up with the girls and out for dinner again. The restaurants here are excellent and we manage to have a great feed with wine for 20€ each.
Tomorrow more quilting for the girls and more exploring for the boys.
