Day 8 – Nuremberg

We said goodbye to Alan and Linda and headed off to Nuremberg to visit the Nazi Rally Grounds, the sight of the massive party rallies from 1927 to the end of WWII. The site originally covered 11 sq km but much has been destroyed for housing.

The museum was fascinating and gave an excellent history of the rise of the Nazi party and the power of Hitler. The Rally Grounds were instrumental in the promotion of The Myth of Hitler which was a propaganda programme designed to promote Hitler as a superman.

One of the main projects of the Rally Grounds which was not completed. The museum is located in this building.

This is an exceptional museum on the history of the Nazi Party and well worth going out of the way for.

We then drove 300 km to Dresden. We stayed in Dresden in 2013 during our ride in Europe but it was in flood at the time. It is a remarkable city that was rebuilt from the ashes of the retribution fire bombing of April, 1945.

We are staying at the same camp ground as last time and will be exploring Dresden again tomorrow before heading to Poznan and catching up with Bartek and Laura.
