Dresden
We camped at Dresden and for the first time this trip we were able to pitch our tent on grass. Throughout Alaska and Canada it was always on gravel. Grass is so much nicer.

By the time we packed up the tent we only had a few hours to reacquaint ourselves with Dresden. It is a thriving and modern city with an old town that was completely rebuilt after WWII. It really is amazing that these buildings were so lovingly restored, using where possible the original stone. That is why the buildings are black and cream.

When we were here last the river was well flooded. I found a photo from then to compare.

That was our bike track down there somewhere.

Absolutely love Dresden and wish we could spend more time there but not this trip. Poland and Poznan is next on the list to catch up with Bartek and Laura who stayed with us and assisted with much of the renovation of our house. We have been wanting to visit since they left so a quick 300 km and we were there by 4.30.

It was great to catch up again. Laura’s sister has kindly lent us her unit to stay in and it is very comfortable.

The unit block we are staying in.
The autobahns here are very exciting to drive on. Trucks do 100 kph in the right lane and cars do 200 kph in the left lane. I was comfortable at 140 kph which meant a lot of weaving and dodging and if not very careful you have a cranky Porsche driver tailgating and flashing his lights. It was fun but somewhat stressful. Collette preferred to travel with eyes closed and sometimes so did I.
All four of us took the bus into the old town so Laura and Bartek could show us around and have some dinner to catch up. The square around the Town Hall is spectacular at night and I had a lot of fun taking some night shots at last.

Dinner was really delicious and cheap compared to what we have been paying. Caught an Uber home, again cheap.
Can’t wait to explore this town tomorrow in daylight then we are all taking a train trip to Krakow for the weekend.
