Day 13 – More from Poznan

Kids off to see the lock tower.

It was a long and late trip back from Kraków last night. We didn’t get home till 12.30 so had a big sleep in this morning.

Our last day in Poznan was an introduction to winter. It was wet and cold and blowing a gale. So pleased we are not here for the real thing.

The one main attraction in the old town we missed was the town hall clock striking 12. Sounds daft but it is a big event.

At 12 each day these two tin goats appear above the clock and butt heads 12 times.

Why I don’t know. This is then followed by an unfinished trumpet solo. Story goes that the trumpeter in the tower was killed mid performance so he tries to finish it every hour.

The rain kept on and since it was lunchtime we had some more perogies.

We had a brief browse in a shopping center but since I couldn’t take photos and Collette had nothing to shop for, we went home to rest. It has been a big trip and will need a holiday when we get home.

A final dinner with Bartek and Laura at a boutique brewery restaurant.

It has been wonderful to see them again. They are like family now and we miss them greatly.

It was an excellent meal and we said our good byes.

Poland is such an interesting and vibrant country. It is a totally different feeling to France and Germany and I think it is due to the relatively new freedom in Eastern Block countries that keeps the passion alive.

Tomorrow we are taking the country roads route back to Germany and head to Hannover for a look.
