Surf’s up in the Med.
Another 360 km driving day, heading for Spain. We again chose the toll roads to save several hours because we expected the beach towns to be busy, and we wanted to snag a good camp site. We heard rumours that French toll roads could get expensive but still wasn’t expecting today to pay 60 Euro ($100) for the privilege.

Overlooking our Grenoble camp site this morning.
The highway petrol stations in France are much the same as our better ones except for the food. Not a greasy chip or Chico Roll in site. Instead we are confronted with too much choice from marvellous bakery style vendors.

Now how are you expected to choose from that lot. And there is always a good selection of wine to go with it but I was so excited about getting my food I forgot to photograph the wine.
We arrived in the beachside town of Portiragnes and finally found the camp site. Waves were crashing on a beach nearby so we took off to investigate.

This looks promising. A shack on the beach obviously serving refreshments.

A temporary bar and restaurant built for the season.

The (almost) French Riviera with a cold drink and a great view all for 18 Euro per night.

Choose your fresh fish. The restaurant menu looked great.

You can rent to lounges for 30 Euro for a couple with food and beverage service.

He was a busy boy, making his first fortune.

And a nice cold shower before you go.
Tempted to stay but we have great beaches at home and a lot of Spain to explore. So tomorrow we drive to Carcassonne, a medieval castle town and our last stop before Spain.
