Today we visited the Salvador Dali Museum in Figueres, Spain. Regardless of what you think of Dali’s work, this museum is an amazing achievement by an amazing man. I have never been a fan of Dali’s work but today’s visit and his museum showed the genius and incredible passion which Dali brought to his art.

In 1970 Dali decided to renovate this Roman theatre ruin and turn it into a celebration of his life’s work. It was opened in 1974 and is a masterpiece of innovative renovation design.

As you move around the passage ways around the courtyard and stage areas, there are rooms full of Dali’s art and sculpture. My personal impression of his early work of the 1920’s is very good, very detailed, and full of life and character. As the years progressed I feel Dali took the ‘Impressionist’ title well into extreme. But that’s just me.

The next 4 photos is a progression of components in their separate state and how they come together. This is pure genius.

Walking into the room you are confronted by this stage which doesn’t mean much.

Next comes a very strange woven string affair.

We are encouraged to climb the stars to the camel. At the top there is a glass to look through.

And we are presented with this image.

On the way out you can visit a separate display of jewellery creations by Dali. As with much of his work they are way over the top but stunning and amazing pieces of work.

This is a wonderful museum, brilliantly designed and presented. Regardless of what you think of Dali or art in general, this is a must see.

A bit of Figueres.

We motored on another 40 km to Girona and found a convenient but not attractive camp site in town. Walking distance to everything so tomorrow we explore the town and try some tapas, Spanish style.
