Alicante Beach

Leaving Cartagena we looked forward to leaving the southern desert region of Spain. It has its own type of beauty but it is hot and dusty and not our favourite part of Spain.

We have seen a lot of these old windmills without sails around southern Spain. They date from the 13th to 19th Centuries and were used for milling grain and pumping water.

Stopped in at Alicante to have a look. This is a very popular beach destination for the British and there were plenty about.

Alicante is a very pretty town with lots of great architecture as we have seen all over Spain.

The heat and desert is really getting to us so we have made the decision to head for the hills. Next stop is Andorra la Vella, 1000 m up in the mountains and 10C cooler. Had an overnight in Castello de la Plana then Andorra.
