Pont de Paris in Andorra la Vella.

The driver up from Valencia to Andorra felt quite flat although it was a slow and steady climb. We drove through masses of fruit plantations and farms. Mountains loomed all around but we never seemed to attack any of them which was a surprise as I knew we would end up 1000 m high. As often happens there is nowhere to stop when a picture beckons.

Finally in Andorra la Vella, a city of about 26,000, nestled both sides of a mountain stream, totally surrounded by huge mountains. It is not hard to understand why this town was near impossible to invade.

Not many capital cities you can trout fish in the middle of. He caught a few while we watched.

In spite of the lack of land there is lots of green space and even gardens.

It has been a long time since I have seen cigarette billboards.

They even provide a selfie stand for your photo in front of the bridge.

A very sharp building.

About 80 m above the city on a steep mountain side runs an old water channel. This is used to irrigate dozens of small plots being farmed with all sorts of fruit and vegetables. There is a very convenient path beside that takes you along the top of the city.

To have one very short leg would be a great advantage.

The views over the city and into the mountains are spectacular.

We were sensible enough to get a taxi to the top starting point of the path. The steps down were brutal enough.

Andorra la Vella is an old and modern city that so far has been very enjoyable to walk around. That’s all we have been able to do so far because we have come to town on yet another holiday, something we have managed to do with monotonous regularity on this trip.
