2000 m up in the Andorran Pyrenees.

We left Andorra la Vella for the 185 km drive to Perpignan in France. The route we chose took us through the north of Andorra and the Andorra ski fields in the Pyrenees. It is amazing what you see when you tell the GPS to ignore highways and toll roads.

The ‘unmissable’ town of Pal.

We were told the town of Pal is unmissable and it was more or less on the way. Turns out it was quite missable which we did and ended up on top of the ski fields 2000 m up.

I think it is summertime practice runs.

Plenty of ski runs just waiting for the snow.

It was a decent climb.

A lot of these ski areas and facilities have been turned into world class mountain bike runs.

This cable car has its own bike racks. It is the longest cable car in Europe and takes 25 minutes for the trip.

From Pal we headed further north into the ski fields, driving through lots of very pretty town nestled in the mountains and all waiting for the snow.

Ski fields and bike tracks at 2000m. It was a spectacular drive through the Pyrenees yet again.

2650m up is the Sud Radio station which was built in 1958 by a state owned French company to compete with Radio Andorra. Through the 60’s and 70’s the two stations had a fierce war for battle of the airwaves.

Yes that is a golf course amongst the ski runs.

We crossed into France and began the long decent, again through some gorgeous towns and plenty of Roman castles and fortresses.

It was a windy trip and incredibly scenic.

Finally made it to the beach for a well earned sleep. Aix-en-Provence tomorrow.
